Things to Do in New Orleans
Top-rated tours and tickets, grouped by neighborhood and day trip.
We have split New Orleans into five areas: the French Quarter, the Garden District and Uptown, Treme and the Marigny with their music, the museums and riverfront, and the swamps and River Road plantations outside town. The first four are close enough to mix in a single day by foot and streetcar; the swamp and plantation trips take a half day or more and usually include hotel pickup.
Walking tours are the best way into this city, whether the subject is architecture, cocktails, cemeteries, Black history or ghost stories. Book small-group tours and cooking classes a few days ahead, and plan outdoor tours for the morning in summer, when afternoons are hot and thunderstorms are common.
